Sunsetting of the FreeScale WiFi (House A)
2 weeks from now 2026-09-30 22:00 UTCUpcomingWe are shutting down our old WiFi system (FreeScale-WiFi) on 2026-10-01. This WiFi system is currently only used in House A. All other houses are not affected by this change!
After this date, the usage of the FeM-Net in house A is only possible via LAN or with a private router. Please keep in mind, that the usage of registered private routers (without NAT, AP mode enabled) is only allowed in accordance with the Terms of Use in houses A, N, P and houses in the Professor-Philippow-Str.
If you have any questions, please open a ticket in our helpdesk at https://helpdesk.fem.tu-ilmenau.de/.
Affected Components: Wireless (Freescale system)
Past incidents
No incidents reported.
Fixed
We have replaced the management module with a new one and are now monitoring the stability situation over the next days.
Investigating
We suspect the network switch to have a bad management module. We are planning to replace this module in the next hours.
The replacement will cause a short network outage as the switch has to be shut down.
Reported
We are experiencing stability issues with our network switch in House E. The switch currently reboots unplanned and often, which results in short WiFi and network outages in this house.
We are investigating the cause of the issue.
Replacement of the management module of house E‘s network switch
In this timeframe, the failing management module in the network switch of house E will be replaced which will cause a short network outage.
No incidents reported.
Fixed
Since replacing the failing switch management module in the network switch of house E, all newly installed access points went online, got provisioned and now deliver wifi as planned.
Therefore, this incident is resolved.
Investigating
Some access points have been configure manually and are now working correctly. We are still working on all other unavailable access points.
Reported
We are again experiencing problems with more newly installed access points in House E, which are available in our networking infrastructure and consume normal amounts of power but are not active in our wifi controller and therefore not serve wifi.
We are investigating the problem on a per-case basis.
